What are the Types of Arthritis Pain?wake sports arthritis raleigh

There are many forms of arthritis, but one of the most common is due to general “wear and tear” of the joint cartilage. Unfortunately, this does not heal or grow back with treatments. This is called osteoarthritis, where the protective cartilage on your bones wears down. This usually worsens with age, and cannot be cured, although it can be treated.

The other main type of arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis which is an autoimmune disorder where your immune systems mistakenly actually attacks the cartilage lining, and potentially other bodily tissues. This abnormal immune response can cause inflammation and damage the joints and organs, including the heart. This has ramifications that go beyond simple joint pain. It can also affect the eyes, skin, lungs, and other tissues.

Other types of arthritis include but are not limited to: gout, septic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and Ankylosing spondylitis.

What are the Symptoms of Arthritis?

Arthritis severity can be different for each individual. Flares in symptoms can last for days or months. Some symptoms can be pain, fatigue, warm joints, swollen joints and reddish joints. Symptoms are often worse in the morning, with long periods of joint stiffness and soreness. Inflammation and arthritis pain that occurs on one side of the body in certain joints can often be found in the same joints on the other side.
