Sports Injury Treatment in Raleigh, NC
WHAT ARE THEY?
Sports injuries can occur in any body region, and can be very scary for patients. When competing in athletics, it is inevitable that muscles, tendons and joints are going to be occasionally overworked by the repetition of certain movements and techniques. Sports injuries can also occur because of incidents and physical trauma during participation. At Wake Sports Medicine, we use many different non-surgical treatments to help address sports injuries of all types and get you back to full activity faster.
Overuse Sports Injury
With an increase in child sports specialization, performing repetitive techniques (often times year round) can increase younger athletes chances of getting a sports injury. The body is growing a lot through youth athletic years and continues to grow on up into high school and college. Repetitious movements day in and day out throughout this period can interfere with the growth process and cause injuries.
However, these repetitive techniques can also affect older athletes as well. When you are younger you can usually recover faster which can help you bounce back from activity on a day to day basis. As you get older, repetitive movements on a regular basis, without proper rest and recovery, can lead to sports overuse injuries as well.
Traumatic Sports Injury
Traumatic injuries can occur in all kinds of sports, but are most common in contact sports like hockey, football and rugby. However, collisions between individuals, objects and the ground can occur in most athletic activities. Unanticipated movements and forces placed on certain body parts during athletic maneuvers can also cause trauma to the body. Some examples of traumatic sports injuries are:
