Viscosupplementation, or Joint Lubricant in Raleigh, NC
While viscosupplementation is often used for the treatment of knee pain, where it’s called rooster comb injection, it’s also effective for treating pain in the hips, shoulders, and ankles. Joint lubricant made from hyaluronic acid, the main component in your joints’ synovial fluid can ease the pain, stiffness, and swelling caused by osteoarthritis.
At Wake Nonsurgical Ortho & Sports Medicine we provide the injections of joint lubricant in Raleigh, NC to restore the natural lubrication lost from degenerative joint disease. We inject hyaluronic acid into the damaged joint using ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy and ease swelling and discomfort.
Like rooster comb injections, joint lubricant for the hips, shoulders, and ankles do not reverse damage, but they can greatly reduce pain and slow the progression of osteoarthritis. If you want to avoid surgery, reliance on NSAID pain medications, or the side effects of steroid injections, joint lubricant may be the right solution for you.

What is VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION, or as some people call it, a rooster comb injection?
Viscosupplementation (Rooster Comb) Injections: They are made from a natural substance called hyaluronic acid that has almost no side effects. They act like a lubricant in the joint and reduce both friction and pain. This is also a same day procedure that is done in the office, rather than in the hospital.
What Other Joints Can be Injected with this Lubricant?
Any joint can be injected, however large joints such as the hip, knee, and shoulder seem to work best.
Is it covered by insurance?
This is currently ONLY covered for the KNEE JOINT. Joints other than the knee can be injected, but the patient must pay cash for the procedure.
Our current price for this procedure is $550.00 per treatment.
At Wake Nonsurgical Ortho & Sports Medicine we focus entirely on nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatments to relieve knee pain, promote healing, rehabilitate, and prevent future injuries.
